Dr. Layla is currently working as an assistant professor of Clinical Virology and Vaccinology at King Saud University, Riyadh-KSA and is registered as a senior clinical scientist. She has been appointed as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester, UK. She holds an MSc in Medical Microbiology and a PhD in Virology and Vaccinology, both obtained from the School of Medicine at the University of Manchester. From May 2020 to January 2021, she joined the UK SARS-CoV-2 national testing programme acting as clinical lead. 
Her work helped develop three new Master's programmes and a Clinical Virology Lab. The University of Manchester taught her a lot about clinical diagnosis. She is currently using her knowledge to help academia and diagnostic virology.
