paper-based IELTS test

Convenient test dates, quick results with paper based IELTS

If you choose paper based IELTS, you will answer the Listening, Reading and Writing sections on a paper. The Speaking test is carried out face-to-face with a trained IELTS Examiner.

The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day. The Speaking section, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. Your Speaking test will now be carried out by one of our IELTS Examiners either face to face or over a video-call at your test centre.

VIDEO CALL SPEAKING

For Video-call Speaking tests (VCS) the Examiner will not be in the same room as you. Instead, they will speak with you via a video-call, similar to Zoom and Teams. The VCS test will be identical to a face-to-face Speaking test with the same structure, content, timing and marking. Security will also remain exactly the same. This development and change to the way the IELTS Speaking Test is carried out forms part of our drive to improve access and availability to IELTS all over the world.

Special arrangements

IELTS is designed to be a fair test and your English language ability will be assessed objectively, regardless of any special needs that you may have. We can help you with any special arrangements you require for your test. Please contact us three months in advance of your test date to find out how you can apply for special arrangements.
